Regulator Performance Guide
Overview
The Australian Government released refreshed expectations for regulator performance and reporting that took effect from 1 July 2021.
Key elements of the Regulator Performance Guide include:
- Move to a more outcomes-focused and principles-based approach – the Australian Government’s expectations for Commonwealth regulator performance are set out in three principles. A Library of best practice gives practical examples on how to embed and report on these expectations.
- Statements of Expectations and Intent – supporting Ministers and regulators to prepare or refresh Ministerial Statements of Expectations which set out the Australian Government’s policy and priorities for a particular regulator’s performance and operations, and responding Regulator Statements of Intent.
- Removal of requirement for external validation of a regulator’s performance assessment – regulators are instead required to engage in a two-way dialogue with stakeholders on performance on an ongoing basis and reflect this feedback in performance reporting.
