The SES Welcome is designed to welcome new leaders and support them in setting themselves up for success at the start of their senior executive service career.

The SES Welcome introduces the expectations and obligations of SES roles, how to manage ‘leadership shadow’ and deal with the greater scale of senior leadership. It provides an opportunity to connect with peers and colleagues who are transitioning into SES roles at the same time, and to develop a plan for the upcoming 6 months in role.

The program welcomes all newly promoted SES Band 1s and external SES recruits to provide a foundation that can be built on in the more detailed SES Orientation program. Participants are encouraged to attend the SES Welcome within the first 1-2 months in their role.

This learning experience has been provided by the APS Academy.

Participant benefits

  • Provides practical tips to survive and thrive as a senior executive in the APS through a panel discussion and Q&A with SES Band 3 leaders and by developing a six-month development plan.
  • Complements agency-specific orientation and on-boarding programs.
  • Offers networking opportunities.
  • Supports self-awareness and how you can lead with integrity.

Suitable for

  • SES Band 1s promoted from an EL classification.
  • SES Band 1s and Band 2s recruited from outside the APS.

Please contact leadership@apsc.gov.au if you have any questions.

Category and User Level

This learning experience aligns with the Leadership & Management Craft at the Lead level.

Considerations

SES Welcome is designed to precede the SES Orientation program. It does not replace SES Orientation. SES Welcome is a lighter, celebratory, knowledge-based introduction that SES Orientation then builds on in a more detailed, skills-based way.

Price

Free of charge.
