By the CALD Employment Strategy team, APSC
The Australian Government has committed to the APS representing the diverse perspectives, identities and interests of the people we serve, and to the APS being a model employer. In February 2023, the Minister for the Public Service, the Hon. Katy Gallagher, asked the APSC to develop the APS CALD Employment Strategy (the Strategy).
Between March and October 2023, the APSC undertook extensive consultation across the APS. The results of this wide-ranging engagement were reflected in a paper released for public consultation in November 2023. The consultation paper presented a Toolkit of actions to address the barriers experienced by CALD employees, including career progression, which had been identified through stakeholder consultations.
The Strategy has been launched and provides a platform for better understanding and building on the strengths of the cultural diversity of the current APS workforce. Following its release, the APSC will engage with agencies across the APS on its implementation and development.
