The Australian Government is further investing in the capability of the Australian Public Service (APS) through the Capability Reinvestment Fund (CRF). In 2023-24, a total of $10 million was made available in the fund for projects that strengthen the APS to deliver for the Australian community, now and into the future.
The capability priorities identified for the first round of CRF funding, were:
- Uplifting APS-wide First Nation cultural competence
- Promoting culturally and linguistically diverse capability in the APS
- Developing APS capability in foresight, scenario and futures analysis
- Embedding evaluation across the service
- Improving gender impact analysis in policy
- Developing deeper knowledge and networks in Asia and the Pacific.
Ten projects involving 14 agencies received funding in this first round. Over the 2023-24 financial year the multi-agency project teams will work together to deliver impactful, scalable, and long-term initiatives that support the development of capability in these priority areas.
The APS Academy is proud to work alongside the multi-agency project teams to help achieve their objectives. The Academy supports the teams by advising on high-quality learning design, connecting them with the relevant expert practitioners in the APS and facilitating the sharing of knowledge and success stories across the APS.
The networked approach to capability development reflects the core mission of the APS Academy: To foster an APS-wide culture of learning that builds core public sector capabilities and drives high performance.
