So, you’ve been tasked with creating a training plan for 2025. Getting started can feel like launching that 'new year, new me' campaign post-Christmas. But don't worry, I've got your back! Starting a training plan at the beginning of the year can be tricky since it's mid-financial year, but that shouldn't stop you. Remember, plans can and should be revised mid-year.
Let’s dive into the essentials:
- Read the room. A savvy L&D team will have strong relationships with business teams, executives and key players. What do people need? What do they already have enough of? What is new?
- Set Goals or Targets: This keeps you on track and focused. Keep it simple and involve others in creating these goals.
- List Activities: How will you achieve these goals? This part takes time, but breaking it down into primary and secondary activities helps. Then delegate – delegate like Oprah giving away cars!
- Create a Calendar: After the excitement of delegation, put everything on a calendar. Use Outlook for reminders or a planner like Microsoft Planner if your team prefers.
- Promote, Prosper, and Plan Again: Use your networks, different channels, chocolates on influencers' desks, morning tea announcements, roadshows – whatever it takes to spread the word. Gather feedback and plan further.
- Monitor and Evaluate: Build this in from the start. Learn what works, what doesn't, and why. Don't take it personally; it's about improving the system and individuals.
No matter the size of your agency or department, planning the first few months of 2025 together will benefit everyone. There's plenty of information online and expertise across the APS to tap into. The APS Academy can help make connections and provide insights, so reach out.
