By the Department of Finance
In September, the Department of Finance hosted a special online event to celebrate the launch of the Procurement and Contract Management Profession (the Profession). The event was facilitated through the Commonwealth Procurement and Contract Management Community of Practice and was attended by over 1000 officers.
The Australian Government established the Profession under the APS Profession model, guided by the Australian Public Service Commission and stewarded by the APS Commissioner Dr. Gordon de Brouwer. The establishment of the Profession is a monumental achievement in recognising procuring and contracting officials as a specialist cohort within the APS and enshrines the importance of their skillset in achieving the governments’ operational and strategic goals.
Attending the event were Deputy Secretaries Richard Windeyer (Department of Finance) and Julia Pickworth (Department of Industry, Science and Resources) as the co-Heads of Profession. At the event, was special guest Teresa Scott from the Australasian Procurement and Construction Council who outlined the why professionalisation matters to everyone. The co-Heads of Profession were then joined by Deputy Commissioner, Dr Subho Banerjee for an interaction discussion with the audience about the Profession.
The Profession is open to all APS officials interested in developing their skills in the procurement and contract management. Officials can look forward to hearing from leaders and industry experts, access more career development activities and professional networking opportunities.
