Did you know that one in two women has experienced sexual harassment in their lifetime and women retire with approximately 23 per cent less superannuation than men of the same age? Or that in Australia women are underrepresented in visible decision-making positions across almost all industries and workforces?
To understand how inequalities like these persist, their impacts, and how as APS officers we can help to improve gender equality through our work, a new free training package has been developed.
A new, free eLearning course created by the Equality Institute (EQI) is now available. The Gender Equality Awareness Foundations eLearning course will offer you an opportunity to build skills that are critical to improving the way we do Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB) in the Australian Public Service (APS); skills that are in demand across government as we build our capability in gender analysis and Gender Impact Assessment (GIA).
The Australian Government is committed to gender equality. As policy makers and members of the APS, we all play a role in ensuring gender equality is considered in the policy development process as we embed gender responsive budgeting practices.
The training package is an introduction to the concepts of gender and equality, concepts that underpin gender analysis – a requirement for all New Policy Proposals (NPPs) and Cabinet Submissions. It will enhance understanding across the APS on what gender is and identifies ways in which gender norms contribute to inequality in Australia. It includes live case studies, tailored content for the APS context and is suitable for all APS, EL and SES staff.
