Understanding gender responsive budgeting and doing gender analysis is the responsibility of all Australian Public Service (APS) officers, and will help drive the Government’s commitment to achieving gender equality in Australia.
The Office for Women is developing a community of practice (COP) – to be launched mid-2024 – to help uplift gender analysis capability across the APS and to support the rollout of gender responsive budgeting. The COP will be open to all APS officers. It will host a suite of practical resources and tools to help you integrate gender analysis in your policy work, including Gender Impact Assessment (GIA) case studies, GIA checklist, Frequently Asked Questions, gender analysis presentations, a Gender Analysis Capability Framework and a tool to enable agencies to self-assess their own gender analysis capability.
The COP is being developed as part of the NextGEN: Policy for a Gender Equal National project, which the Office for Women is co-designing with the Department of Education and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.
Resources on the COP will supplement gender analysis tools that are already available to policy makers, including the APS Guide to Gender Analysis and Gender Impact Assessment, the Gender Impact Assessment Template and Gender Awareness Foundations eLearning course.
