By the HR Profession
In today’s corporate landscape, the HR Profession is an integral part of an organisation and directly assists in the success of workplace culture. HR professionals are strategic thinkers and contribute to a range of critical organisational functions; from sourcing new talent, retaining staff, and ensuring processes and practices are in place to make a workplace inclusive and diverse.
If you’re interested in a career in HR or would simply like to expand your knowledge, the APS HR Professional Stream is a great place to start and can help you grow and enhance your career as a HR professional.
The APS HR Profession helps you develop your strategic HR capability with:
Certification and training opportunities
To be an effective HR professional, it is essential you are armed with the right skills, knowledge, and tools to succeed. This is why exploring opportunities such as a certification with the Australian HR Institute (AHRI) is important. Certification with AHRI validates your expertise within HR by being recognised for your capabilities, leadership and commitment to advancing HR within your organisation, and more broadly, the APS.
Access to a wide community of professionals - network, learn, and collaborate
Cross-agency networks play an important role in developing ourselves and our people. The HR profession has a growing range of networks, communities of practice (CoP), forums, and hubs for you to participate in. Opportunities such as the AHRI National Convention and Exhibition is an example of a leading event where you can hear from globally recognised thought leaders in HR and business.
Collaborating across agencies provides peer support, encourages sharing best practice, and supports professional learning. The APS Recruitment CoP has become one of the largest CoPs, and is a great example of skill and knowledge sharing with quarterly forums hosted by different agencies. Participants benefit from hearing from guest speakers, relevant updates and practical resources to address common challenges.
As the needs of the APS evolve, new networks to support the profession are being introduced.
Networking events
Networking within the HR profession is invaluable, which is why we host numerous events throughout the year, inviting APS and industry leaders as guest speakers.
Events are held across Australia, the most recent discussed how the HR profession can continue to evolve and was attended by Jacqui Curtis, HR Head of Profession and Chief Operating Officer at the Australian Taxation Office, who held a panel discussion with Sarah McCann-Bartlett, Chief Executive Officer, Australian HR Institute; Jennifer Dobell, General Manager Enabling Services, Australian Financial Security Authority; and Megan Boyd, Assistant Commissioner, Working Well, Australian Taxation Office to discuss how the HR profession can continue to evolve.
