After an immensely successful pilot of the APS Academy’s virtual induction course ‘APS Unlocked’, the APS Academy is proud to announce this opportunity will be provided on an ongoing basis. The next session delivered through the learning management system APSLearn, will be held on Thursday 17 August.
The pilot, held on 21 June 2023, was attended by 91 participants from 20 agencies across the APS. It was received with overwhelmingly positive feedback with participants responding that:
- 91% intend to apply what they have learned
- 91% believed what they learned was relevant to their work
- 81% would recommend this session to others
- 85% indicating that overall, the session was valuable in building capability.
APS Unlocked is the third phase in the APS Induction Pathway which is being developed in response to Recommendation 24 of the Independent Review of the APS 2019. The Pathway and APS Unlocked enhances the induction experience in line with the APS Continuous Learning Model and APS Learning and Development Strategy.
In combination with the digital APS Companion and a new suite of online ‘APS Foundations’ learning modules, new staff will be able to focus on key areas such as legislation, policies and public service values. They will achieve this by unlocking the tacit knowledge held by experienced practitioners through hearing about their career journeys, asking questions and developing connections across the APS.
The APS Academy will continue to host these events during August, October, February, April and June. We invite new or returning employees to the public service to be a part of this innovative approach to building APS capability.
