Presenter
Victor Perton
"What's been the Best Thing in Your Day?" is the usual greeting you'll hear from Victor Perton. Stay with him longer and he's likely to ask, "What makes you optimistic?"
Known as "That Optimism Man," Victor Perton is a passionate advocate for optimism in public service and policy, sharing daily insights to help people become more infectiously optimistic through simple actions like smiling more. As Chief Optimism Officer at The Centre for Optimism, he leads research and practical applications to lift individuals, teams, and communities. He is the author of Optimism: The How and Why.
Victor's family came to Australia as stateless refugees, bringing with them humour and storytelling, modelling resilience in the face of tragedy. This background fuels his belief in optimism as a powerful tool for overcoming adversity.
At the Australian Public Service Commission, he facilitates programs such as "Delivering Great Policy" and "Crafting Quality New Policy Proposals."
Deeply committed to the public water sector, Victor is a Board Member of Yarra Valley Water, where he chairs the Leadership, Culture, and Wellbeing Committee, and a Board Member of VicWater. He is an Ambassador for the Intelligent Water Networks.
His "Magnetic Optimism" concept—an optimism so tangible and a vision so compelling people want to reach out and touch it—is central to his teachings.
Victor's career includes roles as Commissioner to the Americas, parliamentarian, Senior Adviser to the Australian G20 Presidency, and barrister. As the founder of The Australian Leadership Project, Victor champions optimism as a driver of leadership, innovation, and resilience.
