The Department of Finance has released two foundational level training courses, to be delivered under its Commonwealth Procurement and Contract Management Training Suite, which are now available for all APS staff to register on APSLearn.
Procurement Basics and Contract Management Basics training courses delivered by the Department of Finance, include face to face and face to screen options and are targeted at the APS1- EL2 levels, free of charge.
These sessions will benefit both newcomers and those looking to refresh their knowledge and enhance their understanding of fundamental procurement and contract management principles in line with the Commonwealth Procurement Framework.
Participant benefits for Procurement Basics training include:
- Awareness of the roles and responsibilities of APS officials when undertaking Commonwealth procurement activities to ensure compliance with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act), Commonwealth Procurement Rules and relevant policies.
- Ability to navigate and apply the legislation and policies governing procurement in the APS context.
- Implementing the steps of the procurement lifecycle to plan procurements, with an emphasis on the importance of defining the business need and effectively managing risks.
Contract Management Basics training benefits include:
- Key considerations in managing Commonwealth contracts in the context of the procurement lifecycle.
- Awareness of key elements of a contract.
- Overview of the fundamental activities involved in effective contract management to achieve value for money outcomes.
- Navigating contract variations and extensions.
To register, search for the Commonwealth Procurement and Contract Management Training Suite in APSLearn and navigate to the Basics courses.
Alternatively, the Department of Finance can deliver training to entities as a single cohort. Minimum numbers are required. Please contact procurement.training@finance.gov.au for further information.
